9 Health Benefits of Chocolate

Superfoods don't just come from your supermarket's produce aisle. In fact those chocolate candy bars next to the gummy bears now qualify. Study after study proves that dark chocolate—sweet, rich, and delicious—is good for more than curing a broken heart. The secret behind its powerful punch is cacao, also the source of the sweet's distinct taste. Packed with healthy chemicals like flavonoids and theobromine, this little bean is a disease-killing bullet. The only problem? Cacao on its own is bitter, chalky, nasty stuff. Enter milk, sugar, and butter—good for your taste buds, not always good for your health. Besides adding calories, these can dilute the benefits of cacao. So snack smart: Stick to healthy chocolate with at least 70 percent cacao (or cocoa, which is cacao in its roasted, ground form). As long as the content is that high, says Mary Engler, Ph.D., a professor of physiological nursing at the University of California at San Francisco, you can reap the be...

Parents Say Miley Cyrus Is the Worst Celebrity Role Model for Kids

It looks like the parents have spoken when it comes to entertainers they don't like their children to see. She might be popular among her peers, but Miley Cyrus is the worst (female) celeb role model for kids -- according to a survey from U.K. coupon site Vouchercloud.

In addition to Cyrus, mums and dads had no love for Nicki Minaj and Kim Kardashian, as the two rounded out second and third place. As for the gents, Kim's hubby Kanye West (at least the West family was together) was voted worst male celebrity, followed by the Biebs (Justin Bieber, that is) and One Direction's Zayn Malik. So who, pray tell, do you wonder are the celeb parental faves? Why, Kate Middleton and Taylor Swift, of course. Some, however, might debate Swift's squeaky-clean image (do I sense "Bad Blood"?).
The sooner some parents (not all, some) realize entertainers aren't always here to deliver a PSA, the easier it will be to live and allow them to do their job -- entertain us. Personally, Miley Cyrus is not my cup of tea when it comes to music and performances, but I certainly wouldn't expect her, or anyone else on this list for that matter, to clean up their image just so that I can give them a thumbs-up in front of my kids. When I was growing up, artists like 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., and Nirvana were popular. While my parents did make the ultimate decision on what I could listen to, they never looked to someone like Eminem to be a model citizen for me to follow (I can only imagine what parents thought about Prince). As celebrities are faced with the opportunity to make a coin, you can pretty much expect them to do what's necessary to remain relevant -- especially these days. It's up to you to decide whether or not they're in range of your personal moral compass. Rather than look to a celeb as a role model, use their popularity -- and how they came to obtain such star power -- as a talking point with your child about life and personal choices. Do you really think there's such a thing as a celebrity role model? If so, who is your choice?
